Recovering Outlook Emails After Windows 7 Installation

I searched the forums, didn't see this addressed....

I recently upgraded from XP to Win7, so I had to do the custom install which wiped everything. And, as usual, it placed all of my old stuff in the Windows.old folder. I want to try to recover/retrieve my saved emails that were in Outlook in XP into Outlook in Windows 7. I didn't back them up to a .pst file before the install, but since all my old stuff is in that Windows.old folder, is it possible to retrieve the emails?

Also, is the same possible for contacts?

Thanks for any help!

Have you searched Windows.old for .pst files?

Well - a couple things. Outlook and Outlook Express are two totally different email programs - despite what their similar names suggest. Outlook Express does not use .pst files.

Also, there is no email client native to Windows 7. Microsoft has dumped OE, and gone to Windows Live Mail, which must be downloaded from here before first use. Or you can use another client, such as Outlook.
