    Firefox 3.6.6 Web Browser Released

Mozilla has released Firefox 3.6.6, which modifies the crash protection feature of third party plugins to increase the amount of time that plugins are allowed to be non-responsive before being terminated that was introduced in 3.6.4.

The crash protection feature, first introduced in Firefox 3.6.4, protects Windows and Linux users from crashes and freezes caused by third party plugins such as Flash and Silverlight. When a plugin crashes, users can reload the Web page to restart the plugin and continue browsing. When a plugin freezes, making the whole browser unresponsive, Firefox 3.6.4 terminates the unresponsive plugin after waiting 10 seconds. These changes were tested with a beta audience of close to one million users. Following the release of Firefox 3.6.4 we heard from some users, mainly those using older computers, that they sometimes expect longer periods of non-responsiveness from plugins, especially with games. For these users the default timeout of 10 seconds was too short. To address this, we increased the amount of time Firefox waits for a plugin to respond before terminating it from 10 to 45 seconds. This change has been made in Firefox 3.6.6, which was released today as an automatic update for all users.

Can you tell me if this version, when installed, will retain all saved bookmarks and passwords from the version that is previously being run?

I am at present still using version 2.0.0.20 and so far any attempts using MozBackup have failed to do so and it would be a major effort for a lazy git like me to manually transfer all the above to the latest version.

You won't lose any bookmarks or passwords if you update to the latest version of Firefox
As a precaution you can save your bookmarks as an HTML file and import it to Firefox 3.6.6

Thanks but I have just tried it that way, fine with the bookmark transfer but it didn't save all my passwords and believe I have a helluva lot of them from various sites as I tend not to try to use the same password more than twice.

there is an option to show saved passwords by site, which you can copy and, god forbid, manually reenter at each site after you upgrade

I just updated to FF 3.66 myself. I think it's a great browser. I think Chrome is a little faster. My wife mostly uses IE 8 and it's just as fast.

I just upgraded too, but it was already so fast I can't tell if there's any difference. At this point it no longer matters.. at least til everyone starts streaming video in 1080p or something.

Anyone having problems since the update? Nearly every page I visit is dog-slow. Cleared my browser cache, rebooted, etc, but no luck.

    Coincidence?
