    Downloads not appearing..

When I download a file and choose where to place it(Downloads folder or Desktop etc.) The file downloads but it isn't on my desktop or my downloads folder. Instead when I go back to download the file I click on the little desktop Icon again and I can see the file but can't open it because the action is not allowed at that time. It's weird the file isn't on the actual desktop. It seems like it's on a even more virtual desktop somewhere on my computer that I can't access unless I am downloading something. I hope this isn't too confusing. Please help. I am using win 7 home premium 32bit if that helps

Are your IE security settings set to HIGH?

IE pretty much does not allow you to DL or run programs from the net at the highest security setting (Though the default is only Med-high and does allow DLing, but youget a warning when you launch the exe). You can manually turn that back on in the detailed list of settings from the "Custom Level" buttton on the security setting dialog for IE.

Well I use Firefox so I am not sure if the IE settings would have any affect on it or not.

Hmmm, not sure if ther is a similar setting in FF but it does do a lot of things simllarly to IE, for example DLing to a temp folder then copying to the real destination only on completion. There could be some similar rules for security to enable or disable DLing entirely. (Though in IE the files still DLed you just arent allowed to run them)

But I'll have to defer to a FF expert at this point :)

[edit] Actually... you have any AV software that may be quarentining them or something?[/edit]

I just checked and my AV isn't quarantining any of the files I have downloaded. It would be so much easier to show you in a screen shot.

When you choose where to place it be very careful you complete the process. Make sure you select "save" and look at the top of the Windows Explorer "save as" dialog box which pops up. It shows the path to the file storage location you are about to use when you click the "save" button at the bottom right of the "save as" window. The file name should show up in the file name field. When all is correct THEN push the save button. If you don't see the save as dialog at all you may have to right-click the file and choose "save target as..." to begin the process.
