WL Mail Contacts

Where are contacts stored?

I moved my mail store folder to my data drive (through Tools/Options/Advanced/Maintenance). I KNOW where that is, but see no contact info in that folder.

I see a contacts folder at C/Users/"user"/AppData/Local/MS/"Windows Live Contacts" I assume that folder is the contacts data (in the .edb file). The contents of the "Windows Live Mail" folder next to it, goes to my data drive. Is there a way to send the contents of the Contacts folder there too? Or is WLM linked to it, and if moved would not update any contact changes? It seems illogical that the contacts don't reside in the WLM folder and get moved with the maintenance store folder changes.

I don't use the "Live" part of Live mail (never log in while in WLM), for fear of my 3500 contacts getting "exposed" online. I do like the calendar "live", but can't get it to sync... given up, don't care.

Windows 7 ships with Windows Contacts built in.

How to Run: To run Windows Contacts, simply type in ‘Contacts’ from the Start menu;
Where it can be found: To access Contacts, open Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\users\[user name]\Contacts\

Not exactly. "That" search leads me to a contacts folder here: C/Users/"user"/Contacts with no contacts in that folder. I also have a folder as I mentioned: C/Users/"user"/AppData/Microsoft/Windows Live Contacts/{ae...big long string...}. When I open WLM the contacts are pulled from there (I have 3500 contacts showing, that I imported from OE CSV file, which appear to be stored there). I guess I'll leave it alone since I don't see it growing much more. I just wanted my "data" all on my second drive so back ups would save from that drive. I image my C-drive. Just seems "odd" to be able to store mail in another location, but not contacts.

More information is needed -
Are you migrating from Windows Mail (Vista) to Windows Live Mail ?
Did you use import wizard to move your email?

The folder "C/Users/user/Contacts" is left over from Windows Mail. It is not used by WLM. However, if you put contacts into it by moving them from a Vista computer, for example, you can tell WLM to "import" them from the Contacts folder. The contacts folder you found under WLM is the location of the contacts database for WLM. There are actually two such databases; one for the contacts you see when "signed-in" and one for when you are not "signed-in".

It does look like you can change the "message store" from within the advanced options in WLM but not the contacts store. I suppose you could try moving the message store and see if the contacts database moves also. This is a good question for a WLM or Microsoft guru.

I moved from XP OE to W7. I exported the contact file from OE into a .CSV file, then imported into WLM. I just tried moving the folder in C/Users/Tom/Appdata/local/MS/Window Live Contacts to another location. I open WLM and no contacts. I move the folder back and contacts come back, so they are definitely stored in that User folder. This is not a big issue, I just wanted to be sure I was backing up the correct folder, that is tied to the message store I was backing up from another drive, and it appears I am.

Really not sure what the C/USERS/Tom/"contacts" folder does. I do see one contact in there, it appears to be my log-in icon, says "Tom.contact".

Maybe I said to much in my previous response. The short answer is "nothing".
