How to get rid of Internet Explorer... for good!

I'm just going to show you how to navigate yourself to the trick because there is no explanation needed.
    1.Click the Start button.
    2.Go to Control Panel.
    3.Click on Programs.
    4.Click on Program's and Features.
5.On the left side of the screen click on the "Turn windows features on or off".
6.In that box untick the Internet Explorer 8 box.

Internet Explorer should be gone in a few restart's.

That does not get rid of the IE, it just disables it.

IE8 will actually be gone in one restart if your computer is functioning properly. It can then by brought back at anytime by reticking the box and restarting, but a good tip to those that don't know nonetheless.

Thing is we've had a tutorial on how to do this and turn off other features for some time. Windows Features - Turn On or Off

The last time I tried removing IE8 from Windows 7 I had issues playing games in Skype. I don't ever use IE8 anyway so I just leave it there.

I does remove IE just not the core shared DLLs that other applications rely on. But IE the interface and application itself is removed.

Based on the thread title, it sounded like the OP was claiiming that IE8 would be permanently removed. As in, you couldn't turn it back on later with out an install of IE or the Win7 disc.

You don't. Windows XP is not Windows 7.

Maybe a stupid question, but on my machine, I never use IE9 and go weeks without even opening it. Yet, when I use CCleaner every few days, there are some temp IE files that are deleted, so I'm "guessing" that my machine uses IE for some form of communication. If I disable IE, then how does W7 communicate when it needs to?

Various applications makes use of the IE core services, accessing the web and what not. The Zune software is one example, few games and services like Steam. When you disable IE thought Windows, those core services are not removed, just IE the executable which is the interface.
