PC randomly freezes + weird sound

    Hello everybody!
3 months ago I builted a new computer so that i could work better with audio and 3d, but since I changed it I had some problems.

    Here's my configuration:
    Motherboard: Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
    CPU Intel Core i5-2550K 3.4GHz Socket 1155 95W Boxed
    RAM DDR3 G.Skill Ares F3-1600C9Q-16GAO 1600MHz 16GB (4x4GB) 9-9-9 2N
VGA nVidia 8800gt (i kept my old one)
power supply: PC XFX ProSeries 550W Core Edition
CaseMidi Cooler Master CM 690 II LITE

Everything works good, except for these 2 points:

    1) (weird one): I think there are some problems with the USB ports...infact my mouse started working slowly as soon as my webcam was turned on (like there was some power problem)...so i just tried out every combination of usb port, since i found the one where my mouse doesn't start to work slow (it's weird to explain...it's not like the pc slows down, but the mouse just start out of nowheer to be slow). But i noticed that now i've problems with the cam, cause it keeps being turned off and on every minute it's working. So well, this could mean some motherboard problems?

    2) the most problematic one: it happens sometimes (like 1 time every 2-3 days) that my pc freezes out of nowhere!! it happened when i was working on cubase, when i was playing a java game, but also when i was doing absolutely nothing.
It just happened once that it freezed up again after reboot.
What happen it's just that the pc completely stops working: the screen freezes (so i can't move the mouse nor type anything), and the speakers emit a weird sound (see the attachment to hear it). the only possible solution is to manually turn off the pc. Everytime i turn it on after the crash, my wifi-usb antenna, doesn't work...so i need to plug it off and on again to make it work (it's just a detail but maybe it's important).
I actually had this problem with my old pc, but it only happened when i was playing some games, and i "resolved" it detuning my video card with MSI-afterburner during the gaming experience. but now it happens randomly, and it's very frustrating, cause it's a powerful pc, and i use it to compose and record music, so i also need stability.

What do u think it's the problem? I think i need to run memtest or something to exclude faulty rams, but i fear it could be a motherboard related problem

    here's the sound btw: Memo.m4a

thanks for the support and sorry for the poem,
    Alessandro.

USB wireless network adapters are inherently unstable. USB ports do not provide enough power for these devices to work reliably, so that would be the first thing that you should remove to test. If you need wireless networking, install a PCI wireless card. Until you are ready to do so, you should try to find a way to connect via Ethernet.

It could be that your wireless network adapter and your webcam require too much power for the system to regulate simultaneously. It could also be that one of your USB devices has a bad cable that is causing power surges or conflicts. It could also be the only USB problem you have is the wireless network adapter as I stated previously.
    • Start with USB Driver - General Fix for Problems to resolve the USB issues. Also, USB ports can sometimes enter a safe power state to protect the system from power surges due to USB devices. To reset the USB ports to a nominal power state:
      1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
      2. Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
      3. "Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
      4. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
      5. (If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
      6. Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

If you still need help after doing the above, please follow the https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html to provide us with system information, system logs, etc. to help us determine possible causes of the freezes. Those instructions are useful for more than just blue screen crashes.

Thanks for your answer! I'll try all this tomorrow after my exam :P
Anyway, i've the possibility to connect my pc through ethernet, since i've the telephone line in my bedroom (and until last year the modem was here). So at first I'll try not to use the usb dongle, and see what happened.

p.s. today when i got back from uni, i found my pc frozen (it was just ON with uTorrent opened).

May have been due to downloading using the dongle. We'll have to see.

I would also make sure if you are using any front ports that the ports are connected properly. I have seen shorts caused by front ports before or due to grounding plates touching the motherboard from the front panel.

I've front ports, but i'm not using there's nothing plugged in them at the moment (I just have the iPhone cable and a usb power cable, but there's nothing attached to them). do you mean that i've to check that i connected them well to the motherboard?
In the next days I'll open up the baby and see if something can cause shorts

anyway, the weird thing is that all this happen randomly, so I can't understand what's the problem...I mean, before the yesterday crash, i was ok for 1 whole week (and i work with my pc 16 hours a day).

Yes, check that the correct power pins are being used and you do not have something reversed with the plug from the front ports to the motherboard.

    hello!
in the last period i didn't have much time to try those solution, so i just waited a little.
Of course I still had the problem (once in some days, but still very annoying).
So today i started memtest86 and i let it work for more than 6 hours...after some hours i went on cheking the memtest stuff, and i saw that the "walltime" (the total time of test) was 2 hours or something...so i pressed esc with no results -> same crash as always!! that's weird i guess.
Lately I also noticed that i don't get the BIP sound at the startup (the one that means everything's ok), and i actually have some problems at the startup (once in 2 days the compute doesn't start...i just press the power button, but the os doesn't load).
So i guess the problem is very bad, also because i need this pc for composing and producing my music, so i can't use a machine i can't rely on

So i've done the reset as u mentioned above (unplugging everything and pressing the power button for 30s), and I also followed the usb driver solution...after that i'm currently running memtest again, to see if it freezes.

I also tried to connect my router in my bedroom (thing that i did since some months ago), but the line doesn't work...that's probably because i changed the provider 2 times, and one of them messed up.
I guess i'll use the LAN connection with an extra long cable (that i should have).

update; after doing all the stuff above, memtest ran for over 6 hours without finding anything (and without freezing lol).
Now i'm using my pc connected via lan cable...i'll use this configuration for some days and see if the freeze happens again
