i checked out that thread you linked me to and check to see if it was overheating by powering up gpu fan speeds to 100% and taking off the cover of my pc case. I managed to play over an hour of modern warfare 2 with no problems, usually my fan speeds are set on automatic, is there a reason why it doesn't increase fan speeds when it gets hot? Is it because of gpu is faulty?

May be ... you may try SpeedFan to monitor your fan speed.

okay, i ran furmark and speedfan at the same time to see if the fans would run faster, and it does. So what's causing it to overheat? Could it be because i didn't put the pc wires behind the motherboard?
Edit: i find that when i put my gpu fan speeds higher than 55% it will start to make a loud buzzing noise, like it's hitting a wire. I've taken a look at i think the fan is maybe hitting the plastic cover or something. the noise disappears when i touch the plastic part.
Edit: my pc crashed this time after half an hour even though i set the fan speed on max and took the pc cover off, so it must be the gpu itself, i'll rma soon.

i just noticed, but when my pc crashes, the gpu fans stop. Also is there a reason why i crash only on some games and not others? such as mass effect 2, and fallout 3?

► Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

Also, do you have adequate power supply?

► Stress test the Video Memory

Report the system temps during games, after a reasonable time in gaming, using Speccy summery tab.

do i test the whole 2 gbs? and in the recommended solution? Also, it's passed the 1 gb tests, but it said some of the tests weren't supported. Also i've found out that the 5 short bios beeps mean process failure.
