BSOD on Entering Sleep & Hibernate Modes

    Dave,

    I was able to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager, but I was still unable to update my Intel drivers.

    For the BIOS, I went to HP's website, entered the model number of my laptop, and then selected the BIOS update that it provided. [BIOS]

    I know the BIOS installer package was meant for Windows Vista (as that's what my laptop came with), but I upgraded my laptop to Win 7 Pro last year - do you think that could be the cause for the BIOS issues (and other driver issues as well)?

    If so, do you think I could create a live Windows Vista CD, and then boot into Vista to update the BIOS and drivers?

    The BIOS has nothing to do with the OS installed. I have Windows 7&8 installed on older OEM laptops/desktops with BIOS released under Vista and have never had an issue.
    BIOS detects and initializes the hardware and then turns it over to the OS, all OSs are designed to work with older BIOS versions.

    Drivers can be an issue when upgrading the OS, I have had very few issues with my older systems, sometimes you will have to install an older driver in compatibility mode.

    A live Vista CD is very hard to make, it is called Vista PE, this will not be needed to update your BIOS.
    Is this the procedure you followed?
    Manually installing the latest version of the BIOS and device driver(s) from a softpaq
    Scroll down to the bottom:
    Sometimes installing the latest version of the BIOS or software driver(s) can take a while and requires your patience. To install the updates properly, do not interrupt the installation process.
    To install the latest version of the BIOS and/or device driver(s) for the computer manually, follow these steps:

    1. Be sure that you are running on AC power, and not battery power.
    2. Locate the softpaq ".exe" file that you downloaded and saved to a convenient location on your hard disk drive.
    3. Double-click the softpaq to open the file and follow the on-screen instructions.
    4. Repeat these steps for each softpaq ".exe" that you downloaded and want to install on the computer.
    5. Restart the computer, if prompted.

    The latest version of the BIOS and device driver(s) that you downloaded and saved to the hard disk drive are now installed on the computer.

    Dave,

    I apologize for the delay...

    The Intel drivers I was referring to were the ones we discussed earlier:
    Intel ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2850 & Intel ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller

    Regarding the BIOS, I tried followed the steps provided exactly and it still will not update. The screen I get is not correct when I run the softpaq. See attached screenshots (the last image is what the Phoenix BIOS Flash screen should look similar to, I believe). The current sequence that happens is:
    1. Run softpaq .exe
    2. Extract files to hard drive
    3. Accpet terms & conditions
    4. "quanta.vbe" file opens
    5. I have to close the "quanta.exe" file before the Phoenix BIOS screen opens
    6. I click "Flash BIOS" and then I get the error message


    I am not sure if there is something I have installed that is keeping the "quanta.vbe" file from opening correctly (as that is what others who have had the issue have said), but I have disabled my antivirus and all other recommended software before running the softpaq exe file.

    ** However, I was disabling some of my startup software under "msconfig" and since last Wednesday I have not had an issue with the BSOD on entering Sleep Mode. I believe there may have been an issue with one of the startup programs and my wireless card. I noticed that every time my computer would have a BSOD issue entering Sleep, my wireless card would not turn off (LED from blue to orange), but the LED would stay Blue. When I investigate further I will let you know.

    I'm not sure about HP but, usually need to save/backup BIOS to a drive/partition formatted in Fat32. This may be why it won't backup.
    For the BIOS.WPH error, try downloading the new BIOS file, it may be corrupt.

    Good news on disabling startup programs, looks like it may have solved your issue. Hold off on updating the BIOS until you check if the system will remain stable.
    If it's stable for a week you can mark this thread solved.

    Still no luck with updating the BIOS or the Intel Storage Controller drivers, but the good news is I have not had any BSOD instances after clearing some of the startup programs.
