    Recovery CD

I purchased a gateway computer, and want to do a recovery on my compaq, but when I tried, it doesn't work.

I created the windows 7 recovery disk on the gateway, and it wouldn't work on the compaq.

    Thanks

Unfortunately a recovery disk for one computer wont work on another type. The drivers, where the image is stored, what type of image, all vary from computer to computer

Why do you want to restore the compaq?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
It's a long story, I did a system recovery and restored it to factory condition, and the bootmgr was removed as well as the OS.
I made a repair CD, but it didn't work, I need a recovery CD to restore the OS and everything back to normal.

Since the gateway is an OEM computer, you can just do a clean install from a win7 disk (borrow from a friend or find a clean copy on the internet). Install the same version your machine came pre-loaded with, then activate by phone activation.

    Activate Windows 7 by Phone

You'll need to locate and install all the drivers and apps separately.
