Windows 7 start up problems

Hi.

My computer has recently had problems on start up - it starts and then continually restarts with various problems.

I have tried memtst, upgraded all drivers and the BIOS.

Attached is the minidump from yesterday - dos anyone have any clues as to what might be causing this all of a sudden?

Thanks

While the debugger points to a win 7 OS file as the probable cause in all of these, that is almost never the case. I noticed that the first parater was for a memory exception and that makes much more sense.

to resolve the issue I would
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

I would also update all the old drivers listed below
How To Find Drivers:
Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

Let us know if you need assistance with any of this

Ken

Windows 7 start up problems

Ken, ttran,

Thank you very much for this advice. I'll run through all of this and report back. Didn't realise I had so many out of date drivers and will run the recommended memtst

Thanks again, really appreciate the help.

Ken, ttran,

I tried all your suggestions. Have now also removed the old Audigy 2 soundblaster card - most of the old drivers were Creative drivers - and the problem seems to have gone for now.

Not sure why it suddenly appeared in the first place, but thanks for your advice!

All the best.

Hello again.

Have done the memtest, removed an offending soundblaster card and updated drivers.

I now get a message saying Internet Explorer has stopped working and the attached files are created. Sometimes this all causes the computer to crash - other times it reports the problem then carries on.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Many thanks. I have run this - it gets to about 55% and the stops with an error message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

Have you seen this before?

Thanks.

Many thanks.

I ran the disk check and then the scan. The scan has completed "Verification 100% complete" and says "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".

Not sure that helps. Disk check did seem to find and fix some errors - it mentioned money.html??
