Windows 7: Windows 7 pro 64 bit freeze/crash

windows 7 64 bit

I originally purchased from cyberpower (never built my own system but now realize I could have done a better job) with XP, had to send it back because it was damaged in shipping, since then it's worked fine until I bought the windows 7 64bit pro upgrade DVD

I reformatted when I upgraded originally and have uninstalled/reinstalled windows 7 twice since.

No mods to the system, I'm no noob but also far from a power user

What can I do to get rid of these excess drivers?

I can tell you how to get rid of the drivers; but what I am curious about is how you got all those drivers in the first place? How did you install Windows?

That's what I want to know as well, honestly. What disc was used to install the OS?

I ordered the upgrade DVD from amazon and followed the directions. Backed up a few files on a flash drive but basically just did a simple install.

Is it possible that my system was hooked up to the other devices when it was sent back to cyberpower and some of those drivers were transferred to the new OS?

An XP to Windows 7 upgrade isn't actually an upgrade at all, it's an OS replacement and then file/settings are copied back. The previous OS basically ceases to exist, so even if the devices were attached (and I sincerely doubt you have 7 RAID controllers in that box), they would not get installed to the Windows 7 install without being found in a PnP scan of the box or USB bus device scan (in the case of some of those print drivers, for instance). Seems really, really odd.

I guess I'm going to assume that the install didn't go well. Other then backing up my stuff and starting over is there a way to assess which drivers are needed and get rid of the rest?

If the answer is going through them one at a time, I will probably just go through the install process again

Unfortunately, removing drivers isn't as easy as installing them, and you are correct - it's a one at a time operation (with reboots in between depending on drivers as well). At this point, I'd back up your files to an external drive, use a clean Windows 7 DVD to do a clean install (don't activate yet), and then check drivers before doing anything else.
