    Sleep mode crashes PC

My computer is set to sleep at 30 minutes - I come back in an hour and my computer has crashed and switched itself off - when I reboot (hit the on button) I get a black screen that says "Windows unexpectedly crapped out - how would you like to reboot?" - so I reboot and all is well...

this has been happening since the last MS update (about a week ago) - before that no problems

any suggestions how to fix this issue?

    thanks - reasoner

If you suspect it was caused by a particular update you would go into the Control Panel>Programs & Features and click on the "View installed updates" option in order to see that one removed. Another fast option is to roll the system back with the system restore feature prior to when the problem was first being seen in case it wasn't from any update but another problem.

Those would be the first two options to start with in case of a bad install of one or more updates or some other registry error now being seen. Have you installed any other new programs or driver updates lately which could also account for this?

yes, system restore is definitely the route I will take to eliminate the update variable - as for new software, nothing new other than itunes apps and songs - think I wil change the sleep to five minutes so I can see what happens in real-time

thanks for the advice - reasoner

When setting things for sleep I had it set for 2yrs. without any problems seen with the desktop install. In some enviironments when first coming out of sleep or hibernation even you may elect to simply see a full system restart to insure everything is loaded up fresh again including device drivers that may not awaken like they should.

Often this will cause sound or even video driver problems to come up where the system runs normally once a full restart is seen to. First let's see how things go once you roll things back a bit there.
