ok so heres a funny thing
as i was had nothing much else to do i formatted my hard drive and installed my copy of windows xp
lo and behold, no problems at all!

    so whats that all about?

got both sticks of ram in, not showing the full 4gb as its a 32-bit windows but even so i would have assumed: dodgy motherboard=dodgy motherboard regardless?

I think your right, dodgy MOBO.

You'll likely develop problems with XP later on.

    I would RMA the board.

Just a thought, what type of media do you have your Win7 installation on?
Original DVD, D/L from the web?

If you D/L'ed it you might have gotten corrupted files when burned to DVD or put on memory stick.

windows 7 stresses ram and motherboard more than XP ever did and I still reckon your issue is mismatched ram ?

for explanation of some of the changes/differences maybe take a look at this blog

i did ask on the gskill site and they pointed the finger at the motherboard but then again i suppose i would if i was them!

thats just a wall of words to me at the moment, just heading to bed now so will have a read in the morning when my brain is refreshed :)

That's good, but what I meant is if you D/L then burned it to DVD, how did you do it?
If you put it on a memory stick, which method did you use?

i see, its on the original disc, not a downloaded copy.

hi again, thought i would update, rma'd the motherboard and had it properly checked, nothing wrong with it apparently so i have now also rma'd the memory, cpu, grahics card and hard drive to get them all checked together. hoping it wont take too long even though i have found a whole new world without computers exists!
