messed up permissions in registry / HKLM

i've messed up the permissions in the registry HKLM - got a blue screen AND not get a Blue Screen on boot up with an error x0000... and "system has been shut down".

i'm online with a dual boot Vista installation on the same machine.

what do i need to do to repair this? i didn't try Safe Mode, but i'm betting that won't boot either.

HELP???

thanks

well, i can't boot into 7 to do a normal Sys Restore.

i'm getting error Stop: c000021a - i had just installed Office 2010 and was having a MsInstaller error, changed some permissions in registry, HKLM where a log file told me Office was having trouble finding a registry entry. said entry was Access Denied, and i tried to change permissions and removed users Everyone, which also removed System and Admins.

now i have BSOD and my 7 Boot Disk is saying 'can't find NTLDR...

anyone have a clue what's happening? is there anything i can do from this side, Vista installation on C: (7 is on D:, separate HD)?

Hello Glennnall, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are you able to do METHOD TWO in the link above to do a System Restore at boot with your Windows 7 installation disc using a restore point dated before this?

i was able to get that far, and chose a restore point, but was then told the i have to enable System Protection to go any farther. reading various posts about that now, learning nothing...

any help?

i'm looking at my D: drive root and i'm not seeing bootmgr - isn't that where 7's bootmgr file goes, in the Volume root folder?

only files i see in D:, besides folders, are hyberfil and pagefile.sys. what files should i see in the root?

thanks
