    Click on desktop problem

    Hi guys,
I've not been able to find a solution to this, I did think of doing a repair with my win7 disc, but thought I'd ask first. I tried a system restore too, didn't work.

Anytime I click on the desktop (right or left or refresh, or paste) I get a dialogue box stating that windows has stopped working, then windows is searching for a solution, then the desktop refreshes. Its getting annoying to say the least.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

    Thanks,
    Willow

A test you may want to try first would be to see if the same happens in another user account.

Even if it doesn't I would still suggest a repair install.

I had a similar problem to this (except it was more due to drag and drop between screens) and the repair install fixed it with little trouble.

Please follow the guide at Repair Install to do a repair install. It just gives you a little more piece of mind.

Thanks, I figured a repair would be the answer. I did try another account, and it did the same thing.
I'm off to the link now.
    Appreciate your help.

    Hi Willowhoop,

I think it's definitely a possibility that you've been infected by malware. Have you run any scans recently?

    Thanks,

Ok... I've just completed a repair, and I'm still having the same problem on all user accounts. hmmm...

I run Malware everyday and purchased McAfee full 2010. They are the only scans that I have at this time, I have some hesitancy due to compatibility with McAfee. I know its not compatible with Adaware and I dislike and distrust Spybot (which actually gave me a mega load of virus and malware). I will run my scans again and see if anything comes up this time.

Will be in touch again... thanks guys, you rock.

In some cases this has happened because of a bug in the CEIP (Customer Experience Impreovement program). Couple of things you can try which are nicely explained on this page.
