    Server execution failed


    About an hour ago following a screen freeze after inserting a camera SD card and then doing a restart I went to Control Panel to change a setting. Clicking on any of those selections in that list would do nothing. Then I began to get error messages that Server connection failed. Four samples of these messages are attached. I did a system restore back to yesterday afternoon when all was well (as it also was an hour ago). Same problem exists with one referring to Explorer.exe.

    Added after posting the above: Windows Explorer is 'dead' - it does not start after clicking its short cut. That does trigger a series of 'Server execution failed' notices. Clicking Control Panel, Computer, Games, etc. does nothing. Every other function seems to work as far as I have checked. I would uninstall Windows Exp but can't get to Add/Remove.

    Suggestions for possible cause and cure will be appreciated.

    Just a guess, but have you scanned for viruses?
    Please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Malware (read the details at the link)

    The problem solved!



    Many thanks to Gigaherz and to Google, as it found the following post on this forum of 9-17-09. I made the suggested change to the first location. My drive had somehow changed from "C" to "T", which is my thumb drive. The change to the second location mentioned below wasn't accepted and not made. After a restart all seems to be functioning normally, with Windows Explorer and the shortcuts to Control Panel, Computer, etc. fully functional. Thanks to each of you that read my post and gave it your attention.
