I can't speak for all Semantec products, but I know Norton 2009 is known to cause BSODs, and besides, it is bloated and slows down the system.
MSE is at least as good as Norton in threat-detection, and is much lighter weight.
ESET 2010 is known to be very good. If you still have your product license, you can install the latest version of it if you like.
Otherwise, no need to pay for an anti-virus product. That free Microsoft program is all you need.
