Bsod "kernel_data_inpage_error"

I was receiving BSODs ever increasingly for the past few months at seemingly random times on computer. It ended up crashing up to 3 or 4 times in one day then nothing for a few days. I reinstalled Windows 7 in the past week and received a BSOD again.

See attached for the BSOD and Perfmon data.

I am running Windows 7 x64 that was installed in the past week. My copy of 7 was bought full retail. My Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop is 15 months old.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This seems to be a straight forward case of memory corruption...Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 passes. Please post your results...

Tews is spot on. In addition, I suggest you uninstall AVG using this tool > Info > Tool (32bit) - Tool (64 bit). Also, if you have AVG Identity Protection, uninstall it using this tool > Info > Tool. AVG is known to cause crashes on some Win 7 systems. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials.

You also have an out of date driver. Old drivers can and do cause memory corruption on some Win & systems. Update this driver.

Thanks for the help. My laptop was set to auto-reset for the bsod for which I uplaoded the minidump. Any chance it's not a complete log? I have another bsod dump since where the laptop did not automatically turn itself off.

I've uninstalled AVG using the suggested tool and replaced it with MSE and will run memtest tonight.

As for the driver, I've updated to one with a "driver date" of 17th June 2010.

I'll be sure to post the memtest results tomorrow.

You are welcome. Good job of following the suggestions and updating that driver as well as uninstalling AVG. We will see if those two things make a difference. A driver dated July 13, 2009 or later is fine. I will be looking for your Memtest results.

I let memtest run for over 4 hours and it completed 7 full passes with 0 errors. For now should I assume the driver and/or AVG were to blame unless I get another bsod?

That is good news. I am glad to hear that your RAM is OK. I thought that would be the case; but we needed to make sure. For now just run your system; updating the driver and uninstalling AVG may have done the trick. Post back in a couple of days and let us know how your system is doing. If it is still running smoothly, we will ask the moderators to mark this thread as solved. If you get another BSOD, upload it to us as soon as it is convenient for you to do so.

Less than an hour after running memtest and powering windows on I got another bsod. I was attempting an install of Office 2010 to sort of test it.

I'm not sure if this is useful at all but I can tell when it's going to bsod because for anywhere up to 5 minutes before it gradually gets more and more unresponsive.
