BSOD on Hibernate/Suspend for Win7 x64 (bugcode_usb_driver 0x000000fe)

I don't recall exactly when I first started noticing this happen, but it was definitely after I got a new hard drive and did a clean install of Windows 7 x64 (it was running x32 before and did not have this problem) but when I put my computer into sleep, it takes a surprisingly long time and then the next time I turn it on, it does a cold boot and says that it recovered from a BSOD. I installed and ran BlueScreenView and found that it was being called by usbhub.sys with an error message of BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER (Code 0x000000FE).

I have a number of USB peripherals plugged into the computer via a dock including an external sound system, hard drive, but the same thing happens, even if the computer is not plugged into anything.

I posted this in the MS forums, but only got a copied and pasted response. I did uninstall all the USB drivers and let the computer re-install them. For a day or so it worked, but then it starting crashing again. I wish I could figure out which of these was causing the error though.

Dell Latitude e6500 (bought new in 2008). Originally came with Windows Vista 32-bit (Home Basic). Installed Vista Ultimate, replaced with Win7 RC and then Win7 Pro 32 bit. Recently installed Win7 Pro x64 full retail edition (< 3 months ago).

I wonder if either your GFX or network card drivers are the cause.

Please install these nVidia drivers: NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL

Install these Intel wireless drivers: Drivers and Downloads

Hopefully that should resolve your issue!

If not, post back with the BSOD report again, and this time we'll get your thread replied to with an hour or 2. Apparently your thread got buried, and was on page 4.

Well, it looks like that helped. For the record, it was actually some combination of those drivers and something installed by the service 'LogMeIn' which I use for remote access. I actually uninstalled LogMeIn first, just on a whim to see if it helped and actually after that I was able to hibernate/suspend fine. Then, I re-installed those drivers. I check to see if I could hibernate/suspend (that worked fine). Then when the system was stable, I re-installed LogMeIn and it worked fine.

So in short the problem had something to do with the way that LogMeIn was interacting with the Nvidia or Intel WiFi drivers.
