MSCOMCTL.OCX Errors

Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its depenencies not
correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

What does this mean and how do I correct it?

Thank you for any help.

It's either located in the \Windows\System32\ (x86) or \Windows\SysWOW64\ (x64) folder, and it needs to be re-registered. Open an administrative cmd prompt, change directory (cd) to %windir%\system32 or %windir%\syswow64 (depending on x86 or x64 version of Windows 7), and run the command regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx to re-register the file.

I have tried this and I got the response "DLLRegisterServer in c:\windowssystem32\mscomctl.ocx succeded" but I still get the message "Run-time error '339' component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" when I try to run a certain program. The same program used to work and now it only works in compatability mode (XP SP3).
what can I do to remedy this? Thank you for your help.
