The machine has always had freezeing problems since day one. Just at first I never witnessed it freezing while playing Champions or watching movies from DVD. If I was watching a movie from my HD or from youtube or hulu it would freeze within 20 minutes. However recently even Champions has been freezing, which could be something new with how the game works as it does get updates frequently. Freezing is not consistant with the game like it is with youtube as I could have it running for 6 hours without a freeze, or it would freeze in minutes.

No new devices, no new software. Only windows updates have been security and recommended updates.

No unknown devices or yellow triangles.

The image is never distorted or black. All of the lights and fans in the tower seem to still function.

Something new that has happened is a short freeze, where it will only freeze for 5 seconds then go again. That has never happened before as I have tried to see if it would unfreeze on its own with no luck, so now I usually never give it the time. Also twice now the computer has suddenly rebooted. I have not updated anything since my first post.

There are several newer BIOS updates I could download, and just recently windows update shows a new GPU update.

That means something has been flaky from day one and by the sounds of it - it's getting steadily worse.

Those screenies reasonably look fine - (apart from the HDD - I need to look into some of those error codes more to see if they are actually an issue)

    Temps and voltages look good.

I normally don't suggest updating BIOS'es willy nilly, but considering the age of the BIOS - it might be worthwhile updating.

However, I would not use the Windows based .exe BIOS update considering how flaky the system is. You don't want the system to freeze while flashing the BIOS.

I'd use the Q-Flash utility from within the BIOS. You can either format a USB stick to FAT32 and copy the BIOS to the flash drive (no folders) or access the file directly from the hard drive.

Since Gigabyte only offer their BIOS updates in a windows executable, here is the latest (p55mud2.f11) BIOS file on it's own: (extracted from the win .exe)

    Attachment 93819

As for the GPU, I'd download the drivers straight from nvidia, rather than use the ones supplied by Windows Update:

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL

I must confess, that I'm starting hit a wall with ideas. At least remotely

When this new mini-freeze occurs, are there any balloon messages that pop up at all?

Hmm. Even if it was still playing silly buggers after updating the BIOS etc, by now I'd be swapping out components. Unfortunately, you need spares for that.

Did you buy and build the machine yourself, or was it pre-built with a warranty?

If it's the latter, I hate to say it, but may be worth contacting the place of purchase.

But if you built it yourself - that's a bit more of a problem if you don't have any spare components on hand.

I'm afraid I've hit a bit of a dead end with remote diagnosis

I'm not going to suggest going out and replace component A,B or C when that may not be the issue.

To perhaps try and eliminate the HDD, download and run Seatools

It's not as exhaustive a test as those that can be only run only blank drives, but it should give an indication. Start with hhe short tests, as the long tests can take hours to complete.

    Update

Computer seems more stable after flashing the BIOS however it still freezes on occation. Just now a freeze did result in a bluescreen and a dmp file was created. Attching files as per sevenfourm's recomended format.

Error code 50, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA - usual causes are Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS.

The dump blames memory corruption right down the line. You do have one out of date driver:

    iaStor.sys Thu Jun 04 21:53:40 2009 - Intel Storage drivers http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

Try updating this driver, reboot and let's see what happens. Do test your hard drive as smarteyeball suggested.

The dump blames memory corruption right down the line. Your drivers are up to date except for one:

    iaStor.sys Thu Jun 04 21:53:40 2009 - Intel Storage drivers http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

Update this driver, reboot, and lets see how your system runs. Follow smarteyeball's suggestion and test your hard drive. I believe you have a hardware problem.

Long Drive Self Test has passed.

No crashes or freezing yet, but reproducing it has never been very reliable. I will start using this PC more and reply again in a few days or if another freeze occurs.
