    Problem Signatures?

Often times our new Tecra M11-S3410 will boot up unable to start Windows correctly and show the repair console. The "cancel" button is available, but by selecting it, a prompt will indicate that the repair cannot be canceled.

The last time this happened I was able to note down the error details. Where can I pull a dump file? Unfortunately, I don't have anything to attach. Please advise what would help or if I need to provide more info. The event viewer didn't seem to provide any system logs related to this..
    Thanks!

Please - is there anyone out there? I have a big job on and my worst nightmare has come true - sat down at my computer to start work and it would not boot up. Have tried using repair utility on startup disk, have now run it 8 times and it does not work. The 'View Problem Details' dropdown tells me:

    Problem Signature 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
    Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    PS 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    PS 03: unknown
    PS 04: -1
    PS 05: External Media
    PS 06: 9
    PS 07: NoRootCause

    OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033

I have been into the BIOS Setup and changed the order of priority for booting to CD (from floppy - don't ask, it's a 3-yr old machine but I was badly advised!) but this has not helped. Going by the Problem Signature 05: External Media, I unplugged my HP printer (it had given me a nightmare during installation), but I am really worried that the cause might be more sinister.

You see, I had been working on something quite complex and, when I eventually got too tired last night to work any more, I decided to leave the computer switched on so that I could access my screens straight away this morning. I noticed later in the evening that the computer was still running (I could hear the fan - the screen was switched off) and just thought that there were usual updates running.

This morning I switched on the monitor to a message that I need to Ctl+Alt+Del, so I did and so began the last two hours of running the W7 progam disk repair utility, reading forums that I don't understand half the time and so on. I am worried that the programs I left running last night have either allowed a virus into my machine or that an update has caused the system to fail.

Please can anyone help? By the way, the programs I left running included MS Word, MS Excel, IE8, and - and this is the one that worries me - Gmail on my browser. Reason this worries me? When I switched on my laptop I had a warning that a GMail update could be malware, did I want to accept. I didn't, of course.

    Hope someone can help.

    Beb

If I understand correctly, the log file will be in C/windows/minidump

If you think it could be malware I suggest downloading and doing a complete scan with Malwarebytes. When the scan is complete if anything is found it will place a logfile in your documents folder.

Hi - in the end I had to call in external help. Although I am still waiting to have the machine back, he believes that some MS updates on the night 29/30 June caused a conflict with the driver that allows my Seagate hard drive and the motherboard to talk to each other (if this sounds wrong, it's because I don't know what I am blurting out, here, I'm just trying to quote verbatim!).

Anyway, he believes that this is a weakness where there is an Acer motherboard and a Seagate hard drive. But as i mentioned, I am still waiting for the final diagnosis.

I hope this might help someone else - if I get any further info, I will post it, otherwise thank you to everyone who responded.

Ah, was going to suggest posting elsewhere and noticed you headed over to the crashes section already ^^.
