    Windows 7 "starting windows" freeze

I have looked around the forums a bit and have seen problems with windows freezing at startup at the "Starting Windows" screen.

I have this issue every other start-up, and I have the full retail copy of windows 7 64-bit.

I also have vista installed. Windows 7 didn't boot completely until I updated vista. After the updates, I only have the startup issue every other time or so.

As for specs I know I have:
    Nvidia 7900 GTX (current drivers)
    Intel core I7
    4gigs of DDR3 ram

Off the top of my head this is all I know (computer is not available right now)

    Thanks for the help!

Thanks Doc. I've got everything installed so I am not exactly having inssues installing anymore. I am just trying to figure out how to stop it from randomly getting caught on the "starting windows" screen.

It is still usuable but annoying.

Do you think a BIOS update or anything could help?

I am relativly new at this stuff

Hey jamiem, I don't know if you can do this but the way I fixed the problem of it happening all the time was having vista installed and windows 7 at the same time. Then I updated vista and it let me past the starting windows screen.

I start my computer the first time and it freezes at the starting windows screen. Then when I hit the reset button it makes it all the way through start-up.

I have heard of the issue jamiem had in some earlier beta versions of Windows 7 but I have not heard of it working on and off (sometimes it lets me boot up sometimes not)

OR should I just wait for a update on microsofts end?

I am having a similar problem with my computer.
I have reinstalled windows 7 64-bit three times now and each time my system , on cold boots, freezes after the "loading windows" screen. I have to power down and restart to allow windows to completely load. I get fewer blank screens when the computer is restarted from a running state.
I thought I'd solved this by manually installing the motherboard drivers but after four days of use the problem has returned.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Colwar,

    1) Can you boot into safe mode? If you can without this problem happening, its likely a 3rd party driver or app at fault. You'll need to isolate the culprit through the Clean Boot procedure.

    2) If you get stuck even when trying to get into safe mode, watch the screen and note down the details of the file where it gets stuck.

    Same problem

I have the same problem. I installed windows 7 64 bit and after updating and restarting windows it freezes at windows loading screen and the only way to get past it is to turn off computer, turn it on, repair it which takes the computer to the state it was b4 updates.
Finally I found what update it was that cause this, it is the graphic card update. I have a Ati radeon HD 4890 and it has been working perfectly well on windows 7 for a while until now, after the new install of windows 7. I can't download the drivers manually either because I only get the same problem. Any tips? I really have no idea. Is it the graphic card or perhaps PSU? Ive read about this problem on alot of forums but haven't been able to get an answer

    please please help

    Solved?

I was unable to overcome this problem for ages having tried everything I could from suggestions on this and other forum sites.
I then decided to buy another hard drive ( a solid state one as it happens) and did a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. This greatly reduced the frequency of the error screens - I think I got about three in total over several months - and with successive windows and driver updates I have not had a problem since.

The Problems is not in the hard drive, or atleast so I believe. My computer never usually freezes and it still doesn't until I install the graphic card drivers. I cleaned my harddrive and installed windows 7 from scratch. Can the problem be an the graphic card? that maybe became overheated at some point? and it started to cause this?
