Windows 7 pro freezing

No idea why this started happening- installed a new cpu cooler, booted up, and my system now reliably freezes within 7 mins of booting up not in Safe Mode.

No BSOD, just a freeze rquiring a hard restart.

My most frequent error is Service Control Manager: 7001,
I'm also getting DistributedCOM: 10005

Running:
Win 7 pro x 64
gigabyte udr 3 mobo
intel i7 930
3x4 gig OCZ ram
galaxy gtx 470

Help would be very muchly appreciated!

OK lets think about this
New CPU cooler,

I come up with overheating

Download and try this. I would be very surprised if temps are within normal range. 60C is about the hottestest it should be

Is it possible that it's the nVidia drivers? I've heard that they don't operate too well with windows 7. All my drivers are, however, up to date and OS- appropriate.

Hi

Welcome to Seven Forums
Basics first:
  1. Are you using the latest drivers for your hardware (BIOS updates may be available but do not do that for now)?
  2. What IS/AV-software are you using?
The BSOD Squad on SF are going to request that you upload dump - howto. Make sure that you have at least some samples of your dump-file in this thread as soon as possible

Regards

Update:

Took me a while to post - Richard is on-site now

I had to try five different drivers before I eliminated screen freezing. I ended using the third driver down on the list.

Yes; all the latest drivers are installed- not currently running any antiviral software, but I did a full boot drive scan, and no dice.

Try downgrading your video card driver to an earlier version - preferably the version which came with the hardware.

Also have a look at this thread (Source:Windows Forums) - Mentions Vista but the troubleshooting process applies to 7
