    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen

i just purchased a new laptop (hp dv7-4077cl entertainment notebook) a couple of days ago and the system repeatedly restarts unpredictably (i come back to my computer and see that it has restarted and needs the password to be entered). The Windows 7 is 64-bit and is the original OS on this device as an OEM. the OS has not been reinstalled.

i have zipped the perfmon & bsod dump output folder as an attachment.

i am hoping that there is a simple fix -- otherwise, i probably will return the laptop since i purchased it only a couple of days ago.

thanks for all of your help!

these are caused by hpdskflt.sys, hpdskflt.sys is a driver for the onboard mobile data protection sensor.

I would simply re-install the driver

In addition to Ken's spot on advice, I find some older drivers on your system. Out of date drivers can and do cause conflicts, memory corruption and crashes.

Update these two drivers, especially the 2008 driver. If you can't find and updated driver dated July 13, 2009 or later, uninstall the software.

I recommend that you uninstall Zone Alarm while you are troubleshooting. ZA is a known cause of BSOD's on many Win 7 systems. Use this uninstall tool: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe.

I also find some Symantec/Norton drivers. Please uninstall using this uninstall tool:Info > Tool. Norton is also known to cause BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials and make sure Windows Firewall is turned on. If you wish to try Norton after you get your system running smoothly, you can do so; but I do not recommend it.

Go to the manufactures' websites using the links above. Search for the particular driver. You will usually find these in "Downloads". Download the latest version to your desk top. If it is a zipped file (usually), unzip it and click on the .exe file. If you have any trouble, don't hesitate to ask.

I recommend that you create a restore point before you install the new driver - just in case.
