BUMP (sorry again - dont like doing so but i need to get this sorted if possible!)

Ive been out this evening having left the pc on with afew internet explorer windows open and come back to it being frozen as usual without me even using it.

Any ideas or advice on who i should go to to get it sorted would be greatly appreciated! Really need to sort it out as its costing me money.

    Thanks

Hi - try a Selective Startup using System Configuration to isolate what exact component is being loaded in normal mode that is causing your problems.

ive tried the selctive startup over the last couple days with no success. I disabled all services (bar Microsoft ones) and all start up items and thought it had sorted the problem as it didnt crash for about 36 hours but has now crashed twice again today...

Ive also run a check on the hard disc which shouwed nothing up, went through all my drivers and found 1 that required an update (Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter) although i doubt it'll solve the problem.

Also looked into updating my routers firmware but it wouldnt let me. Rang Belkin support and they told me it was the latest version installed so no problems there.

As far as im aware i still have the problem - crashed this afternoon while i was writing a message on facebook so it seems totally random. Only thing that seems to be regular is that i have the internet browsers open but then that doesnt mean much as i use the internet for 99% of my work on the pc!

I notice a couple of new events in Event Viewer

    Dhcp-Client Event ID 1001
    and
    DNS Client Events 1014

Not sure if either of these could be causes.

Any other ideas of ways to fix. I would restore to an earlier point but havent ever created a restore point and the pcs set ones only seem to go back a week or so whereas this problem has been ongoing for well over a month now.

    Any other ideas appreciated.

I'd ideally like to avoid a full system restart if at all possible but would do one as a last resort to get things working again.

Many thanks again in advance for any help. Really need to get this problem fixed asap.

    Hi,

Sorry I wasn't able to deal with this thread sooner - most of the "regulars" here have been very busy lately.

I see you have decided to just go for a re-install.

Let us know how it goes - and whether we can consider this one solved post-reinstall or not.

    Regards
