Mcafee is one size fits all. It is not made specifically for Windows
Download and use Microsoft Security Essentials. Minor complaints about problems
Use the Mcafee uninstall tool to uninstall
And I had Mcafee switched to Security Essentials, my first scan I found 5 Malware and one Trojan. Trust me on this one. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

Thanks that sounds like a good idea I've been considering changing anyway as since I've had Mcafee it has never found a single instance of anything virus or malware ect. in about a year.
It has been able to do complete scans before this new problem though, I'm concerned the file is corrupted, does anyone have any advice in regard to the file? | My System Specs

Run this. If errors are found run three more times. At a minimum it will tell us if there is corruption at best it will fix them SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
That particular error refers to Mcafee, however, you may have to uninstall and install again, if you want to keep it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

Thanks took your advice on anti virus just downloaded Avast-free edition is running a scan now.
I'll run this when the scan is over. I have no problem getting rid of Mcafee if that's what should be done. | My System Specs

The BEST anti-virus is Microsoft Security Essentials.
This product is FREE., auto-updates, non-intrusive, small footprint.

Thanks for the link, I removed Avast. While I suspect your opinions might be biased I'm going to download Security Essentials. I'm only joking of course, always been a really big fan of Microsoft, don't own a single Apple product, I'm a PC .
I miss clicked on windows media player and it said not installed properly and won't open. I think this might be the problem on the file Mcafee is getting stuck on so I want to re-install it, try Mcafee again just to see if this was the problem. It directed me to re-download from Microsoft site, where it says for windows 7 I should download version 12 which is unavailable for download, it redirects me to download version 11 which it says is for Vista. Should I just download version 11?
It directs me here Get Windows Media Player - Microsoft Windows , when I click on version 12 it redirects me here Using Windows Media Player 12 for Windows 7 - Help & How-to - Microsoft Windows , which leads to version 11 here Microsoft Download Center: Download Category Search Results | My System Specs

This forum is independent of MS. Our only goal is to get your computer to run as well as it can.
You can rest assured that Karlsnooks and I suggested MSE because we feel that it is the best. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

Remove McAffee.
Remove ALL av, anti-this that or the other except for MSE.
Once you have a system with non-interfering and non-conflicting AV software we can see if any problems remain.
I do not work for, I've never worked for Microsoft. I'm retired and not from Microsoft or any affiliate thereof.
