Windows 7: Persistant BSOD's

Persistant BSOD's

I bought my laptop back in March and it ran fine until last month. I made no particular changes, but one day it suddenly began to crash often, especially while playing games. I took it back to the shop and after two weeks they said there was nothing wrong at all. After a few days, the BSOD's started again, so I formatted and reinstalled Windows (7 Ultimate 64-bit). A few days again passed with no problems, but then suddenly, back come multiple BSOD's while playing games or surfing the web.

The BSOD's contained errors such as:

Page fault in nonpaged area
Irql not less or equal
Bad pool header
Dxgmms1.exe

I think it is an OEM version of Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and I have re-installed once a couple of weeks ago. I have tried rolling-back drivers, updating drivers etc. but the same errors repeat. I have done driver cleaning/registry cleaning. I have switched off Hibernate/Sleep modes, and switched off my Anti-Virus software - problems still occur.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

I can't even find your Third Wave mobo.

You need to upgrade you realtek audio driver. Also check on your network driver. You video card is fine.

Hi there,

Many thanks for the reply

I have now updated both the Realtek & Network drivers.

I then tried running a couple of games, Civ5 demo & The Saboteur. Both crashed after a couple of minutes, no BSOD, just system rebooted itself

Yikes. Run a thorough test of memtest86+

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

Your error codes point to hardware/hardware related problems.

I found you have some out of date drivers including one very obsolete driver. Win 7 does not like older drivers. Than can and do cause memory corruption. Update these drivers starting with the one in red font.

Quote:
EMSC.SYS Fri Jun 19 16:35:47 2009 - COMPAL Embedded System Control, Compal Electronics, INC. I have no idea what this driver does. Update it if you can.

enecir.sys Sun Jun 28 22:17:30 2009 - ENE CIR Driver for eHome(64) is a driver file from company ENE TECHNOLOGY INC. belonging to product ENE Consumer IR Driver for eHome. Update this driver

iaStor.sys Thu Jun 04 21:53:40 2009 - Intel Storage drivers http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

SCDEmu.SYS Tue Aug 07 11:19:48 2007 - PowerISO Virtual Drive belongs to the software scdemu by PowerISO Computing, Inc. This software is obsolete and may be one of the causes of your problems. If you cannot update the driver from the the manufacturer's website, uninstall the software.
The last two drivers are the ones to concentrate on. Take care of these, reboot, and let's see what your system does.

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff88008189cee, The address that the exception occurred at

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

Cybercore, types faster than I do! The drivers dated July 13, 2009 or later should be OK. They may not be the latest; but they should be compatible with Win 7.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Many thanks for helping!

I ran Memtest over night, for seven hours and no errors were reported. I did find out my RAM type: on the attached photo.

I uninstalled PowerISO as I hardly use it. Then I installed the latest 360 controller driver. The Realtek driver I updated before running Memtest. The other two, I have no idea about:

Intel storage driver - I can't workout which mine is. I ran the auto-update/scan thing, but it doesn't detect that & what it does detect is meaningless - just saying which parts it doesn't know like the HDMI driver.

The enecir.sys driver - I have no idea what that is and what to look for.
