    oleacc.dll error after windows update


    I have looked at your discussions, but I would like to verify "restore" would be better than the "repair". This error started about a month ago...nobody made a point to have me check it, preventing a HP Multifunction 306c fax/copier/printer from printing emails.

    I tried finding help online...but I was pressed for time, so after I talked to HP help in the Philippines I tried uninstalling the program and then reinstalling, not wanting to have to do a Windows 7 repair without directions, and foolishly thinking it would fix it. Now the software will not reinstall the printer at all...it installs everything else, so they can fax or copy, but not print.

    I can provide more detailed info when I head back to the office (35 miles away) on Wednesday, but I thought this might be enough info. If you think "restore" would fix it, I will restore and then look for a more recent HP software update than 3-28-2010.

    Many morals here...don't do things when you are in a hurry, and trying to do repairs that used to work in XP. I now have many more gray hairs. Any advice appreciated!

    Thanks...I guess? The program and drivers are deleted and I can't reinstall. The question was: Is restore better in this situation than repair?

    System restore sets certain parts of the OS back to the point that they were at on the date that the restore point was made. Most importantly, the registry settings are reset.

    A repair will redo the Windows files. This includes all of the Windows files, not just those protected by SFC.EXE (the System File Checker).

    I would suggest uploading the reports from this topic even though you're not having BSOD's. Then we'll be able to start trying to figure out exactly what error is occurring: https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

    It would also help if you would give us the exact error message that you get when the oleacc.dll error pops up.

    Hi, Thanks for listening. First - I did a restore back to 8-4-10. It didn't work. I had deleted the HP programs, before I did that. I can't upgrade them. Actually I can't install anything. The primary printer error gave this message:

    DEVICE 10 NOTIFICATION WINDOW HPQTR80.EXE SYSTEM ERROR:

    The program can't start. OLEACC.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

    OK...if you tap this box a few times you can work a bit, but you can't use the printer to print from the emails received.

    I cannot install anything. As soon as I finished restore I sat and waited while Windows update downloaded and installed all the updates since 8-4-10. Then I checked and of course it wasn't fixed. I called a Tech friend and while I was on the phone our Biz Manager was fooling around and he got a message (I didn't see it, but he read it to me) it said partially "You have shut down Windows updates". Since I know we had just installed them it seemed weird.

    My friend said. 1- Do Restore 2- Try a- In Safe Mode b- type " run sfc/scannow ", enter
    3- If that doesn't fix it: Do Repair. I have printed out both the step by step Restore and the step by step Repair from this website, and I am double checking William R. Stanek's book: Windows 7, The Definitive Guide. 4- If this doesn't fix it you have something on the computer and need to take it to the shop, was his final suggestion.

    I even tried to buy the program they are selling from this site for drivers and could not install it. Sounds like there is something rotten happening. I think Microsoft sold me out when I do a quick search of the MS site and they tell me to "do a search online for the fix" after searching for OLEACC.DLL and all there are are nothing but programs selling driver or dll or registry fixes. This machine does auto-updates. I don't have this problem at home, and it may be because I have UniBlue's Registry Booster and defrag the
    Registry after cleaning it.

    Does any of this make sense to you?

    First, we don't recommend the use of registry cleaners as they cause more harm than good. Here's an article about it. It was written for XP, but applies equally to Vista and Win7: XP Fixes Myth #1: Registry Cleaners - Windows BBS

    Have you run the SFC.EXE command yet? (OLEACC.DLL is one of the protected system files that it checks for)
    Have you performed the repair install of Windows yet?

    I would suggest a free, online malware scan in case something has bypassed/corrupted the antimalware program(s) that you have installed. Here's a link to a listing: Malware
    If some of the scans don't run, keep trying until you find one that does - if none work, post back and we'll try more stuff.
