    sudden "disk boot failure". Drives not detected by BIOS


    Hi all,

    Last night, my HTPC was happily working. However, the PC suddently froze and I had to manually force a shudown. Then, I tried to reboot and I got the following message:
    "disk boot failure insert system disk"

    I have 2 HDs and the BIOS and POST are not listing the HDs at all. I checked the cables but i doubt both HD cables disconnected at the same time anyway.

    Any ideas will be much appreciated

    Take the cover off the computer.

    Blow out all dust.

    Make sure that all fans are running.

    Leave cover off, temporarily, till cause located.

    Does computer now boot up correctly.

    If not, reset the bios to default settings. Problem gone?

    If you can, try those hard drives on another machine. Hopefully that wasn't the motherboard or PSU failing, bricking your drives.

    Thanks for all your prompt replies,

    I have sorted the problem out. It was so silly...
    I realised the drives were not spinning, so I checked the power cable, which was a little bit loose and magicly everything went back to its happy HTPC normality
