    FREEZE: What's the hang up?

My Windows 7 Ultimate installation has been hanging lately. I don't mean crashing. I mean, it stops responding.

OK, I'm a mean old user that often does not reboot for days. Worse, I use my computer a lot. I typically have 20 or more windows open during the day with things that I am currently working on (websites, etc.) or Office files that I am using (job hunt).

Now, typically, I walk away from the computer, and when I come back everything is fine and I just continue working were I left off. But occasionally, I find that my start menu is frozen. I can sometimes close out a visible windows (hit the X in the corner), but not always. Sometimes these windows are hung too.

But when I look at the eventlog, today, the only event of the last hour was an informational message "The system uptime is 240801 seconds."

No other events appear until the time that I had to hit the power button and force a shutdown.

What should I be doing to figure out the cause of the freeze? Thanks.

    Excellent info!

While I followed the links and got "about:blank" instead of a download, you gave me enough info to find the fix on the Microsoft site at:

    Help and Support

where you can request the hotfix by selecting it and providing contact info.

Thanks for the info, Ken. I am just reporting back that have not had the problem since applying the fix.
