No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

One day i started up my computer and out of no where it wouldnt boot up windows 7 all i get is "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" I have no idea what happened i have a HP Notebook Gt60-600, i made a windows repair disk and booted that up. ran the startup repair test thing and it keeps saying theres an I/O device error.

I have a seagate HD 320gb, with Windows 7 home premium 32 bit

And tips and help would greatly be appreciated, i would like to fix it i dont wanna have to reinstall windows because i bought the computer with windows 7 on it and HP didnt give me a windows 7 install disk with the computer

Sounds a whole lot like HD failure. The I/O error is the clue. Can you pull the HD and try it in another computer to test?

I can't speak for your specific hard drive failure, but I have had horrid experience with Seagate drives.

On an HP laptop, however, a common failure reason that I hear all the time and have experienced is heat.

Can you hear the disk drive spin up? Can you hear the heads making any seeking sounds? If you can't hear these types of sounds it's quite possible the drive is dead.

Unfortunately, with mechanical hard drives it's not a question of IF they will fail but WHEN. Heat, vibration and shock are usually the things that cause early failure but mfr defects are also a possibility. Is the drive still under warranty?

Were you able to plug that drive into another computer to see if it worked there? It seems that the drive is bad and the only way to really know for sure is to try it in another machine.
