Windows 7: Win7 64bit BSOD - clean install

Win7 64bit BSOD - clean install

This is a Dell Optiplex 980 with a Core i7 processor, 4 GB of RAM. New box. Fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit.

Have the latest drivers from dell, but am getting a BSOD 7F about once a day. No heavy use at the time either.

Windbg shows the following for all of them:

Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!KiDoubleFaultAbort+b2 )

I'm attaching a zip with the last dump, but all are the same cause.

Any clues?

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT

not switching mcafee just because. even worse with security essentials...

In any case, do you see any of the other drivers mentioned causing a problem? Just trying to learn as well how to trace this...

Thanks.

Not memory... Left memtest running overnight and after 28 passes did not produce any errors.

Something else is causing this...

You have eliminated RAM as a likely problem.

I strongly suggest that you follow cybercore's instructions to uninstall McAfee. MSE is not worse than McAFee; it does not cause BSOD's. McAfee is known to cause BSOD's. When troubleshooting, the objective is to eliminate all potential causes of BSOD's. McAfee most definitely a potential cause as are out of date drivers.

Cybercore gave you good advice. Uninstall MacAfee and update your drivers, especially that 2008 driver.
