So I ran prime95 for about an hour and no freezes....all my speedfans were under 50c so I'm not having a heat issue....I think a new GPU might be in order...

Spkynee I've done the driversweeper in safemode...then reinstalled...I tried the games with Creative SB24bit live card, and realtek on board. just about everything. Different video drivers. If I had another rig to try the card in I would or another card, but I sold my old 8800gt. So, I'm still leaning toward a faulty GPU under 3d load crashes

wrxsnowman,

I have the same exact problem on my system... For a while I had been running SLI 8800gts and recently I fried one of the cards. So, thinking that I could simply upgrade and get a new card to solve my problem I purchased a gtx460. I get the new gtx460 in the mail and like a kid at xmas immediately go to install all the drivers etc....

Everything is running beautifully until I actually try to play a game. I play COD4/5 and Lotro quite a lot and have had no problems until I fried my card. Now I understand that what led me to this condition is different than you, however, I'm here now and cannot find out why this is happening.

My conditions:
- Launch Game
- Login
(Approx. 1 - 5 mins)
- Screen and all peripherals lock up
- Screeching static noise
- Requires power cycle to recover

I have ran the memtest and found no issues, I have removed the sound card / drivers, switched slots to separate IRQ, checked voltages in the BIOS, reloaded drivers for all components, checked power connections to the vid card, blew out and dusted the entire system...

One thing I did notice is that using the precision application that comes with the card, I'm running kinda hot on the cards. ~50c idle and ~70+ when running the games... I'm going to work on getting better cooling in the chassis, however, the side is already off and I have a fan pointed straight in there.

I was able to run a bit longer last night by only using one 8800, but it too crashed with the above conditions after around 40mins.

I'm still looking...

The odd thing is my Video card usually runs hot around the 68-72c. It has been like that for months. I have good cooling in my case so its kinda odd if the heat is the issue now. Sometimes just starting a game makes it crash like in the new MOH once the opening screen appears it locks up with no heat or any load

Just checking to see if there were any other inputs on this... it is still occurring for me.
