I am having an issue troubleshooting this error code.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem.

1.Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.

Problem one.....i am attempting to repair windows for a friend that does not have the disc for win 7.

    File: \boot\bcd

Sounds like your boot manager might be missing. If so, you might be able to fix it with:

Download EasyBCD 2.0.2 - NeoSmart Technologies

If not and if you can't boot into safe mode or command prompt, you probably will need the disk.

Reboot and try tapping the F8 key to see if the Repair Console is located on Advanced Boot tools. If so you can try running the steps given without the CD although the CD will work better.

Burn a repair CD so you have more options: System Repair Disc - Create

From the F8 or CD Repair console, open a Command Line to make sure WIn7 partition is still marked Active: Partition - Mark as Active

Then run Startup Repair repeatedly. If no installation is found to repair, try running from Command line: bootrec /fixmbr followed by bootrec /fixboot to see if one shows up so you can run Repair on it.

If not, browse in to see if you can find any files to copy out: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Your options are then to order factory Recovery Disks from Tech Support or locate any Win7 retail installer to unlock all versions to reinstall the licensed version with the Product Key on COA sticker: Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create

You can write the Win7 installer or Repair CD to flash stick using UltraISO trial version: On FIle tab Open ISO, then on Bootable tab choose Write Image File. Click Format first, then Write button.

Boot flash stick by setting it first to boot in BIOS setup, or using one-time BIOS boot menu. It may be listed under USB or HD"s.
