    Recurring BSOD

    Good Morning,
I have recently installed Win7 (64bit) on my desktop which I purchased in 2007 with Vista (32bit) factory installed. After the installation, I began having issues with BSODs while running video games (initially Final Fantasy XI, lately Final Fantasy XIV). I have Trend Micro Internet Security Pro running and have use the System Tuner in addition to virus scans galore. I have also used Driver Wizard to update all of my drivers, and Registry mechanic to clean my registry. As I have had the most issues with FFXIV, I have uninstalled/reintalled it with no change. My hardware is as follows:
    AREA-51 7500-R4
    FULL-TOWER BLACK CASE 2.0B
    EVGA NFORCE 680I SLI MB
    D- CORE 2 DUO 2.67GHZ E6700 4M CACHE 1066MHZ
    2 PDP 1GB DDR2 LOW LATENCY PC-6400 AW108
    SEAGATE 250GB SATA 3G 7200RPM 8MB CACHE NCQ

    POWERDVD 7 FOR VISTA 8CH

Any assistance anyone can provide me to point me in the direction of fixing these BSODs is appreciated. BSOD dumps attached. Thank you.

Hi Tater, Welcome to the forum. Sorry you are having trouble. I looked at five dumps and you have four different error codes which indicates a hardware/hardware related problem. Memory corruption is indicated in all five dumps.
Error code 7F, UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP. Usual causes: Memory corruption, Hardware (memory in particular), Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, 3rd party firewall, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack

Error code 1E, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. Usual causes: Device driver, hardware, System service, compatibility, Remote control programs, memory, BIOS

Error code 24, NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM. Usual causes: Disk corruption, insufficient physical memory, Device driver, Indexing, Resident antivirus, backup, defrag programs, Disk/Drive failing/failure

Error code 3B, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. Usual causes: System service, Device driver, graphics driver, ?memory
I see that you have at least two firewalls running simultaneously, Windows Firewall and Trend Micro Firewall. You also have PCTools security program running and Windows Defender running. I recommend that you completely uninstall Trend Micro using this removal tool: Tool (64 bit). Completely uninstall PCTools. I believe there is an uninstall tool on their website.Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials. It supersedes Windows Defender, runs smoothly with Win 7 and offers better protection than Windows Defender. Make sure Windows Firewall is turned on. Many third party security programs cause crashes with Win 7 and running two firewalls simultaneously can definitely cause conflicts.

Reboot and see how your system does. It may be that the above security programs are causing all of the problems. If you get another BSOD after following the instructions above, upload the dump. At that point I agree with Lemur's solid advice below, run Memtest. Follow the instructions in the link he provided.

Because of error code 24, I recommend that you run Check Disk.
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt. Please do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors. See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

    Elevated Command Prompt:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

    CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Windows 7) (winlogon for XP).

Copy/paste the results into your next post.

    UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
    If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
    use .trap on that value
    Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
    Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.

Thank you CarlTR6 and Lemur for the fast replies.

    I have:

    Uninstalled TISP
    Uninstalled PCTools
    Run MemTest 86+ - Passed
    Run check disk - Passed
Searched for an updated driver for NVidia NForce Network Adapter, but cannot find a newer driver

I am still getting BSODs, although fewer and mor erapid, i.e., I see the BSOD for an instant and my PC resets itself. I have included a second perfmon and BSOD analysis to see if anything has changed, or if you have any other suggestions. Thank you again.

I am sorry that your problem is not resolved; but glad to hear your system is running better. Good job on thinning out the security programs. For an additional layer of security, I suggest that you download Malwarebytes (free) and run it as an on demand scanner, once a day , twice a week, once a week - what ever you are comfortable with. Malwarbytes runs well with Win 7 and is a good program. A lot of us here use it.

This dump blames your USB, USBPORT.SYS, and indicates corrupted memory. However, this driver is up to date. What USB devices do you have plugged in? In viewing your event log, I see that nvvsvc.exe seems to have caused several crashes. This program belongs to the software NVIDIA Driver Helper Service, or NVIDIA Display Driver Service or nvvsvc.exe by NVIDIA Corporation (www.nvidia.com). I suggest that you test your video card with Furmark. Follow the instructions in this tutorial: Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

    Post back with your results.

I only find one out of date driver. See in you can update it.

    Thank again CarlTR6.

I have updated my NVidia drivers. Still having BSODs. Attached the latest reports.

Also, ran the GPU stress test, temp leveled out at 77* and saw no remnants.

As for my USB devices, i have an HP 2610 All-in-One Photosmart printer, keyboard, mouse, and a game controller. I now have an external HD as well, but I get the BSODs with or without it, so i don't think it's an issue, unless I'm looking at USB overload.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks again

Tater, there was no new dump included. The latest dump is from the 22nd and is the dump I posted about above - the 1E error code and USB. The other files are all updated and show the 25th.

Have you tried unplugging your game controller and seeing how your system does? Let's test your RAM with Memtest. Follow the instructions in this tutorial and run at least 7 passes. This will take about 7-8 hours. Errors, if any, will show on your screen in red. Post your results.

I guess some of the crashes are not registered by windows, as I have 3-4 a day, and only show 4 since the 22nd. Anyhow, latest crashes uploaded.

I ran MemTest 86+ again, and this time got errors, 115 within 25 minutes, then MemTest stopped working. Do you need to see the info that MemTest posted, or is knowing there were errors enough? I'm going to try to run it again to see if I can get a screen shot (if I can even do that).

Thanks again for all of your help.

Thanks for reporting back. You are welcome for the help. Knowing that you got errors with Memtest is enough. That tells us you have a RAM problem. It can be a bad RAM stick, a bad motherboard slot, incompatible RAM, RAM incompatible with the motherboard, or even a bad memory controller (motherboard). Now to narrow it down. This will be long and tedious; but I don't know of any other way.

    1. Remove all sticks of RAM except the one in the first slot. Run Memtest on that stick for at lease 7 passes. If it passes, remove the stick and replace it with the next stick and so on. See if you find a bad stick.

    2. If you do not find a bad stick, test each slot with a known good stick.

Post back with your results and also let us know how your computer runs with only a single stick. If you do not find a bad stick or a bad slot, I will ask the RAM gurus to take a look at this thread. I am not a RAM expert; but we definitely have RAM experts here.

I looked at your four most recent dumps. All blame or indicate memory corruption.
