Windows 7: Various BSOD while playing games

Various BSOD while playing games

Hi all,

First post so please bear with me if I need to take this in baby steps.

My eMachines e630 laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 has been crashing after about half an hour of playing any game except Starcraft. I get no warning, no strange behaviour or lag in game, just a sudden BSOD. The thing that has me stumped is that it's a different bug check code almost every time. I've attached the info to this post. Your advice would be most appreciated.

One dump blames your ATI driver

Uninstall it then use driver sweeper to remove leftover files

Reinstall your ATI drivers: ATI Catalyst

Update DirectX: Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

An USB device/port is also causing BSODs
Remove any unnecessary USB device or plug it in another port

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc000001d, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff80002c71787, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: fffff880083198d8, Exception Record Address

Thanks

Hi peeps. Thanks for the suggestions. I've updated everything I could find updates for and managed to play for a while longer but still got blue screened after an hour or an hour and a half. I've attached the zipped dump file if someone could look at it and tell me what it means I would greatly appreciate it?

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b)
An exception happened while executing a system service routine
PROCESS_NAME: Pirates!.exe
Probably caused by : dxgmms1.sys ( dxgmms1!VIDMM_LINEAR_POOL::FindAdjacentBlocksOnFreeList+26 )
This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.

This one and a few other crashes last time were caused by DirectX file, so updating input devices like touchpad and keyboard would be very good.

Looks like you got this driver even worse:

Apfiltr.sys Thu Aug 02 11:18:30 2007 (it was 2009 last time)
Alps Touch Pad

Would be good to take care of these:

RTKVHD64.sys Tue Oct 20 12:55:09 2009
Realtek Audio
Realtek

DKbFltr.sys Thu Mar 26 05:15:42 2009
Dritek 64-bit PS/2 Keyboard

NTIDrvr.sys Wed Mar 25 05:09:39 2009
NewTech Infosystems, Inc.
NTI - CD Blu-ray DVD Burning Software, Backup Software, Free Trial - Official Site

I would like to know what this driver is, but can't find any info:

avitfnqx.SYS Wed Jul 15 00:12:55 2009

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you can't find updates, run your system in safe mode for some hours - if it never crashes in safe mode then it's a driver problem and you do indeed need to update those I've listed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

However, if the system does crash in safe mode, run memtest overnight:

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

...and another crash again today trying to play a steam downloaded, 100% legit and up-to-date version of civ 4. Dump file attached FYI. This is rather frustrating, if anyone could help translate this or point me in the right direction to learning how to debug this myself that would be brilliant.

To try to locate which one, enable driver verifier which will stress your drivers and cause them to bsod. Collect a few .dmp's with the driver verifier on and attach them so we can take a look:
