One of my pcs won't boot. It just load to a blank black screen then has the little white text cursor in the upper right corner.
It's win 7 64 bit, and I was able to run the hp hardware scan and the processor, ram, hd, and what ever else was on the list all passes then it booted back to the black screen.
f8 and f11 do not work
I can get into bios and passed the extended and short smart test and can run the HP hardware diagnostic and everything passes
I didn't make any recovery disc but did burn the .iso from Download Windows 7 System Recovery Discs — The NeoSmart Files
with that disc in the pc I can get into the system recovery options like the ones on this tutorial System Recovery Options
but can not format/reinstall win 7 that way as far as I can tell. I have run
Startup Repair - did not find a problem
System Restore - did not find a restore point
System Image Recovery - did not find Image
Windows Memory Diagnostic - says it will scan on next reboot but does not
and command prompt does pop up but I don't know anything to do with it
The only option I have got from talking to hp tech support is to order
windows 7 64b 94nav6pca1 + supp 5 recovery kit
but that will take a week, and cost $16, and if possible I'd like to at least get it started to format today.
At this point I am not really sure what options I have, but I have already backed up the info on the HD so I am ready to format it and reinstall if needed
Any help I can get here will be greatly appreciated.
Here is a picture of the black screen with the cursor just so there is no confusion on what I am seeing when I try to boot up the computer
