black screen with cursor... different I think

Seems to be a fairly common problem but I have a few difference than some of the posts I've read...

Did a full system scan and did a reboot. I then got the black screen but I can move my cursor and access any programs through the task manager.. (currently am typing this message with a black screen in the background)

    So unlike other posts:
I have a cheap toshiba with no disc drive with no install disc
also my graphic card works fine...

I apologize if this is an incomplete post but I don't know much about PCs and I don't particularly want to get a new laptop....

    Welcome to SF, Hagberd.

You said your graphics card works fine. Do you have the latest driver installed?

Why were you running a systems scan?

Did you scan because of a problem, or just normal routine scanning?

Your System Specs do not list your Toshiba Satellite model #. By all means, update your video driver and let us know if that helps.

downloaded every relevant driver... I don't think its a graphics card issue since I can still use programs just fine if I start new tasks through the task manager...

I have a feeling that a virus or malware I removed also had a command to delete whatever file is needed to load my desktop...

anyone with a similar problem out there... I don't want to reformat or get a new laptop quite yet... thanks
