Hi all,
I hope someone can figure out the issue with my machine.
Here is the setup:
Dell XPS m1530
Current OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Downloaded from MSDN via subscription)
Original OS: Windows Vista Home x86
Here is the issue:
I upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 with a clean install and downloaded most
drivers from Dell (the vista 64bit drivers). Additionally i installed an upgraded video card
driver from nVidia. Upgraded the BIOS and installed some Dell specific applications. Everything seemed to work fine for a while (I am not sure how long - A few months maybe) and then I started getting really random BSOD's. It didn't matter what I was doing on the machine. I also seemed to get every kind of error imaginable.
During that time and increasingly more frequently I started hearing a sort of clicking sound (or maybe more pinging - it's hard to describe). The crashes sometimes coincided with me hearing this noise, but not all the time. Eventually, my PC would not boot at all and I called Dell who said it was a motherboard problem. I am still under warranty so they came out and changed it. A few days after, I started getting crashes again.
About a month ago, getting fed up, I reinstalled Windows 7 again and updated the essential drivers instead of all of them like I did before. From Dell I installed, the sound, bluetooth and touchpad drivers, installed the quickset application (so the media keys would work) and installed the graphics card driver from nVidia. Everything else seems to work fine, except that there are two devices in device manager that do not have drivers installed. They are labelled: Base System Device and Unknown Device.
I still get BSODs but it seems not as frequently.
I have attached the BSOD info since the last install. Hope I've given enough info to help solve the issue. Please let me know if more info is required.
Thanks!
