Turning off startup items (not boot items) is a valid troubleshooting step. Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup is a frequently used tutorial for tracking down what application or service is causing a conflict with other applications.

Refer to Win7 basic troubleshooting steps.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Anybody got any solution, except the clean install of the OS? I've tried the msconfig, and removed unnecessary programs, but it doesn't seem to work.
