    Unexplained boot failure

I installed Windows 7 Home Premium the last week of October. Since then I have had two experiences where during a restart Windows gave me a screen that says Windows could not start and sent me into the system recovery mode. Prior to this there was no error message or indications of a problem. The first failure was fixed after about an hour without a system restore. The second required a system restore. Anyone else had this experience?

It sounds like you may have some corrupted files. Go to search type in cmd from an administrators account, and in cmd type this sfc /scannow. It should help clear up the corruption.

If you still have a problem install your windows DVD and then boot up. Do this 3 times, selecting the repair option. Hopefully, your problems will be resolved.

Doing a system restore will not help if the corruption occured during installation. SR can temporarily cover up the problem.

    Hope this helps.

Ran the 'sfc /scannow' command which found no problems. Thanks for the help.

Just had this experience again. Had to perform a system restore. Diagnostics said problem was caused by a patch but didn't indicate whcih patch. After rebooting system Windows Update wants to reinstall patches. What is stopping the patch that caused the problem from being reinstalled?
