    Annoying Problem


    I have an insanely annoying problem, I can't use Steam, open Hotmail or Facebook on any browser, and when I eventually open Facebook it's displayed in text only mode, this guy had the same problem as me, To fix it you need to make a new User Account, but the problem is whenever I make a new account, as soon as I log onto it Windows Explorer crashes, I've used Task Manager to launch it again but it crashes straight away. This is driving me insane, I need to check my E-mails and Facebook badly. I will be taking this computer back to the shop if I can't fix it. So if anyone could please help me it would be very appreciated.

    Its not hardware so the shop probably wont do it. It is software.

    Do you have a backup we can restore from?

    Do you have the win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

    There is two ways to fix it the right way and the fast way. Which?

    Welcome
    Several things to try. Start with an SFC scan to correct corruption. Run several times if errors are found
    SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Go to search type
    event viewer
    Then go to administrative and look for errors and the correspoding codes at the time of the problem
    You can also read this article
    I am not suggesting that you use any particular suggestion in the article, since I am not aware of the effect.
    Always start with a system restore point
    Windows Explorer Crashes Or Freezes Frequently

    You may have to resort to a repair install

    By backup do you mean a system restore? Because the guy at that link mentions he tried a system restore to no avail.

    And no sadly I don't have the Windows 7 DVD. I still have a warranty on this machine, would that warranty cover this problem?

    Whenever I use SFC /SCANNOW and it finished it says: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but could not fix all of them" and I can't access the log, it always says access is denied whenever I try to open it.

    What to you mean by a repair install? Reinstalling Windows 7? Does that mean I lose everything on my computer?

    Open another elevated Command Prompt and paste this command into it:

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log

    This will show all the files you want to see in the Command Prompt window.
    Since that window is not very practical for a detailed study, you want to paste the content into a Notepad, Wordpad or Word file.
    For that you right click on the Command Prompt window (any place is good) and click Select All. Then you right click anywhere in the window. Now this whole text is stored on the clipboard and you can paste it into a document file (e.g. Notepad) where you can analyze it.
    Per WHS of Seven Forums,

    Repair install requires the install DVD which you told Ken you did not have

    Ken is asking of a back up, a copy of the OS. The native Sytem Image would be fine. If you did not delete you would have it.
