    Intermittent BSOD (MiniDump) PLEASE HELP!

    Hello all,
I am consistently getting BSOD while using my computer. Never set off by any one thing, it seems to happen randomly, surfing Internet, scanning documents, typing in Open Office. Never really associated with one thing.

    System Specs are as follows:
    OS: Windows 7 64 Bit
Motherboard: MSI NF980-G65 AM3 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI HDMI ATX AMD
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz
    Memory: 8gigs: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS 1TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
    GPU: SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX

Attached is the zip file with error data.

Can someone please tell me from this what appears to be the causes of the crashes?

    Thanks so much!
      My Computer

    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff80002dee0f3, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: fffff880031bd8e8, Exception Record Address
    Arg4: fffff880031bd150, Context Record Address

I find some out of date drivers loaded on your system; one is particualry obsolete. Older drivers can and do cause memory corruption and BSOD's. Update these drivers.

    How to update drivers-
    - I have listed links to most of the drivers in the code box above. Please use the links there to see what info I've found about those drivers.
    - search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
    - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

    - - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
    - - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads
    - - To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper Guru3D - Driver Sweeper
After you update these drivers, reboot and see hoe your system runs. If you get another BSOD, upload it to us and we will test your RAM.

Any nvidia drivers that you have must be up to date at all time if possible.

nvidia drivers are oftenly the cause of many CPU crash and many problems such as memory corruption.

I recommend that you update your nvidia drivers, anything nvidia related, at least every 6 months if you do not really like to update them.

Having a 3 years old nvidia drivers of any kind in your system is a garantee of some crash at some points so even if this does not fix entirely the issue, you still need to do it.

Thanks very much guys, I really appreciate it.
I just ran memtest overnight, 8 passes, no errors. So thats good news. Will update the NVIDIA drivers and keep my fingers crossed.

I am having no luck finding these drivers. The NVIDIA site wants me to select a product, etc etc to try to find the driver. Using the search function on the site with the name of the driver produces 0 results.

Any additional help on finding a link to update these things?

From my personnal experience with memtest86+, I would suggest you try each module for 10 pass each. Others users would recommend 5 pass, but if there is a compatibily issue with your Mobo your memory will not necessarly crash as fast as in the case of a bad ram. It's a pain, but necessary. Thought I admit that 8 passes with no errors give hope.

I think the nvidia drivers you are looking for is this :

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...0a_sli_us.html

However the site does not seem up to date. You should try on the MSI website since your mobo is from them. I'm not too familiar with nvidia mobo chipset I must admit.

Okay, I went to MIS web site and downloaded system drivers from 2010.

But, when I search my computer for nvoclk64.sys and click properties, it still shows date created / modified 2007. Darn it. I was hoping the update from MSI would do it.

Any advice on how to update this troublesome file?

Apparently this belongs to a utility called NTune and it is an XP utility. Here are some threads I found about it:

nTune Monitor gives BSOD - nvoclk64.sys

Windows XP 64bit - PC Pitstop Forums

Bsod nvoclk64.sys problem? - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Answers

Are you overclocking your graphics card? From reading about this driver, the solutions seems to be to uninstall NTune. Before you do that, create an restore point or a system image - or both.

    Hi there,
Nope...No over clocking. I don't have Ntune and I am running Win 7 64 Bit no XP. Wish I could just delete the nvoclk64.sys, but that might cause lots of problems...

Incidentally, the BIOS version on my system was 1.0, I used the liveupdate utility that came with the MOBO and it flashed my BIOS and updated to 1.40. Maybe that will help.

That is a good call and good initiative. Most of us here only recommend flashing the BIOS as a last resort. It can be a risky thing to do.

Regarding the nvoclk64.sys driver, you can rename it from .sys to .bak. This way you can rename it back should you need to. Do create a restore point before your do this, just in case. I think that nvoclk64.sys is a utility driver and not necessary for the running of your video adapter based on what I have read. But I have no experience with this driver. When upgraded to Win 7, I bought a new NVidia adapter and never had trouble with obsolete drivers.
