BSOD after new install of W7/64bit

    Hi all,
I am attaching dump files (one only in czech).
My computer HP Elite 7100 is 1 month old, I used 32-bit Version of W7 Home premium. Last week I ordered new memory modules 2x4GB - extension from 2 to 10 GB and installed 64 bit version of W7. And BSOD appeared.
Now I have only system Windows with updates (therer were some problems with updates) and antivirus Avast Home edition installed. Before this installation I made another one 64 bit and downloaded new drivers for graphic and audio and according windows experience system the perfomance of graphics dropped from 4 to 1
I will be very glad if you could help me. Thanks a lot.

Hi Michal; welcome to the forums. Sorry you are having problems. Both dumps are error code 1A and blame a Windows core driver, which is very unlikely to be the cause.

I see one outdated driver loaded on your system. Older driver can and do cause conflicts, memory corruption and BSOD's. Update this driver.
Rt64win7.sys Thu Feb 26 04:04:13 2009 - Latest PCIe GBE (GigaBit Ethernet) drivers here: Realtek.

Because these BSOD's started after you installed new RAM and installed Win 7 64 bit, I suggest you test your RAM with Memtest following the instructions in this tutorial:
RAM - Test with Memtest86+. Let it run for at least seven passes which will take 6 - 8 hours. Post back with the results.

    Hi Carl,
    thank you for recommendation.

I made a bootable CD of Memtest86+ and ran it twice. Yesterday 6 passes with no errors, today 10 passes with no errors (please see the picture).
Does it mean that we can exclude some hadware issues (memory moduls or memory slots on motheroard are ok)? I can try to uninstall the new memory moduls to see if the problems with BSOD depends on memory. Or the mixed usage 2x 4GB and 1x 2GB is problem (or should I add the second 2GB modul in order to have dual channel)?

I downloaded new driver for ethernet and now am trying to do normal work on computer. I have still only system plus antivirus. Until now there are now new BSOD, but yesterday I had these unpleasant behavior:
    - the computer (or what) made loss of ADSL internet connection (there were suddenly no connection) and I had to reset and restart ADSL modem (maybe some issue after finishing of updates of windows; it happened after the finish of system installation also).
    - during browsing the web there was twice the notification that the driver of graphic card is unstable, black screen on display, but in a second the issue was automatically resolved.

I was using Windows 7/32 bit last month and was very satisfied with it (only one issue was that after recovering PC from sleeping mode, my second harddisk disappeared, but after restart was back again).
The 64 bit version brought disillusion (BSOD - is it so common - driver issues?), but I need it in order to be able to work on our family fotos and videos (wedding 7 years ago and still no video).

Concerning the drivers for computer, I found this page on HP's web with drivers for my computer HP Elite 7100:
HP Elite 7100 Microtower PC*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

Do you mean that I should download some drivers?
    - Ethernet card - now I have version 7.27.920.2010 from 20.9.2010 from Realtek (on HP page there is 7.017.0304.2010 from 25.8.2010)
    - Intel Integrated Graphics Driver - now I have version 8.15.10.2202 from 25.8.2010 from Intel (on HP page there is 8.15.10.2119 from 24.8.2010)
    - should I update the chipset driver or storage driver? I do not know if it is necessary, now I have drivers that windows downloaded.

It seems it could be ok with the new ethernet card driver. I try to work with it and will see. If there will be new BSOD I will get in touch again. I hope it was caused by drivers (today I was considering about bying new graphic card or ethernet card, but was happy if I have not to do it).

Will you have a minute to read it and give me feedback? Thank you very much.

    You are welcome, Michal.

Memtest results look good. Memtest, and other hardware tests are not perfect. I have seen Memtest run and not show errors, yet the RAM was bad. That is the exception though. What we can say is that your RAM and RAM slots are probably good. Mixed RAM usage is generally not recommended by the hardware experts - of which I am decidedly not one. RAM should matched - same brand same model. Mixed RAM often causes problems. Try removing the 2GB stick and see how your system does.

Generally, it is good to have the latest drivers, especially chipset drivers. Video drivers can be finicky; some time the latest does not work as well as an older version. I found that to be the case with my NVidia graphics card. You video problem does sound like a driver problem. You could install the latest driver and roll back if the latest one gives you problems. All of your existing drivers are Win 7 compatible drivers and are not out of date - except the one I mentioned above; but it is a good idea to have the latest drivers. We recommend updating drivers from the manufacturers' websites rather than using Windows Update.

Other than working with your RAM, run your system and see how it does.

    Hi Carl,

I think it was caused due to the memory modules.
I tried to work with original modul only and then with the new ones. With new ones BSOD appeared (during playing one game), with original modul no problem. I sent the modules back to seller and got money back. I read somewhere that some 4GB memory modules could not be compatible with older chipset due to the new DRAM configuration (8x256, in older 2GB modul it is 8x128).
    I think problem resolved.
    Thanks a lot.

Michal, thanks for updating us. I believe you found the source of your problems. YOu are correct about newer RAM not working with older chipsets; this is not unusual. I am glad you got your money back. And you are very welcome for the help.
