Constant BSOD and lock-up on startup.
Hello, this is my first time on this forums and was hoping I could get some help from the community.
Okay, so I recently bought Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and a brand new 465 GB hard-drive due to having a lot of problems with my older version of Windows XP including start up problems. When I had Windows XP, I would constantly receive blue screens randomly throughout the start up process, they would usually read one of two things: "irql_not_less_or_equal" or "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area". So, thinking we had viruses and such on the computer, which we probably did, we decided to get a brand new OS and Hard Drive, as well as a new 2 GB stick of RAM, adding on to our already 4 GB of RAM, so we now have 6 GB. Things were fine for a while after installing the new OS and the new Hard Drive and I installed my games and Steam and all that (I mainly use the computer for gaming) and the computer started getting worse and worse after that.
Most of the time when I start the computer now, I get BSODs that read the same things they said when I had Windows XP (read above). Sometimes I'll get lucky and get into my desktop for a while but it will usually blue screen or lock up. Also, occasionally when it locks up, this weird red bar will appear on the top left of my screen. I still have my old Hard Drive hooked up as the D: drive, and I'm thinking that is the problem, but I'm still not sure. Please help, this problem has been going on for too long.
My specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33 GHz 2.33 GHz
RAM: 6.00 GB
64-bit Operating System
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
(If you need any more specs I can retrieve them.)
Thank you in advance.
