win764 is a giant leap backwards

    not responding....
win 3.1 aand xp could not handle it. vista could shut the program down.
    win7 64. is worse than 3.1!
it ends up snarling the whole computer and has to be powered down with the power button.
have 2 computers - both toshiba laptops both win7 64. one connects to the internet, the other never has.
    both have the same problem.
sometimes they get to the 'logging off' or 'shutting down' screen - but it sits there for hours just showing the words and doing nothing - going nowhere.
task manager is no use here either
other than buying an apple - is there a solution?
    thanks

Yes there is. But first we need you system specs, and OS version to start.

1)Go to start --> search and type msconfig - under the General tab choose selective start up amd remove the tick from start up items. Then go to the startup tab and remove all ticks. Restart.

    2) If step one fails try- Then go to Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools and click services. Scroll down and find IPhelper and stop that service.

We unfortunately need the entire system specs

    Cmputer
    model
    cpu
    ram
    video card

and a specific description for the problem.

    not responding.... (what isnt)?
win 3.1 aand xp could not handle it. vista could shut the program down. (you arent supposed to install from within windows but boot from the dvd)
win7 64. is worse than 3.1! (3.1 is decades old things change and having used both win 7 is far better)
it ends up snarling the whole computer and has to be powered down with the power button.
have 2 computers - both toshiba laptops both win7 64. one connects to the internet, the other never has. (this is a different problem)
both have the same problem. (what problem cant install, or cant connect---not the same)
sometimes they get to the 'logging off' or 'shutting down' screen - but it sits there for hours just showing the words and doing nothing - going nowhere.( you are running hardware that is I suspect "older" and that is the primary problem on both)
task manager is no use here either

other than buying an apple - is there a solution? (buy an apple, buy a pc either would work, and given that you can run Apples on Pc's, whats the difference now?)
    thanks

toshiba satellite L675-019 and Satellite P500
4 meg ram......................... 4 meg ram
    win7 64 bit ..........................win7 64bit
how do i find the cpu and video card specs?
    does the pic help?
the problem occurs when doing regular things like looking at pics.
not responding..., ctrl alt del to stop it and just get a message saying something like do you want to stop this program... then even if i choose restart i just get 'shutting down' - for hours -- but it does not shut down til i press the power on/off button.
both computers do this, the p500 has never conected to the internet so virus is unlikely.
the other is used just for the internet.
    thanks
