    windows freezing at splash screen

My laptop decided to stop working mysteriously, it will act as though it is loading normally and just stay forever at the splash screen. I've tried System Restore, nothing. I've tried Startup Repair, and it says it can't fix it and gives me this code:

    Problem Signature:
    Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
    Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 03: unknown
    Problem Signature 04: 21200870
    Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
    Problem Signature 06: 5
    Problem Signature 07: CorruptVolume

Hmm, seems to be a problem with your disk. Try to run Command Prompt from the installation/recovery disk with the command: chkdsk /r

i use my disk, go to 'install', then 'repair my computer', then under the System Recovery Options, click 'command prompt', but it says i can't use it because it's trying to be used on a write protected disc, which i guess is my recovery drive, and it won't let me change directories to drive c:/ to run it on that disc

ok, so i ran the chkdsk c: /r, and it found no errors, but the last line read:

'Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50'

so, im assuming since it found nothing, it still wont start properly, and since it didn't log it, i'm gonna stay at the cmd prompt, till i get your directions.

We are really somewhat in the dark. It could be anything. As a next attempt I would try a Startup Repair: Startup Repair

thank you, the 1st time i tried Startup Repair, it basically automatically went to 'windows cannot repair this computer automatically', this time it scanned it for about 10 mins, asked me if I wanted to do a System Repair, then took 15 mins repairing and ended up with the 'windows cannot repair this computer automatically' with these details: (the only difference i see, is that now 'Problem Signature 06' is at 12, instead of the 5 previously)

    Problem Signature:
    Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
    Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 03: unknown
    Problem Signature 04: 21200870
    Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
    Problem Signature 06: 12
    Problem Signature 07: CorruptVolume
