Post back in a couple of days and let us know. I hope we can mark this thread as solved. :) My guess is that you had several driver issues going - those outdated drivers + Eset. If removing Eset resolved the problem, this is the first time I have seen that version of Eset cause a problem.

After making that post I clicked to close mozilla and.... BSOD
I tried to boot the machine abut 6 times and it wouldn't even get to a windows loading screen but then I had to go out. I will try again tonight and report back.

Cracked it!
And it was nothing to do with windows. Somehow without me opening the case one of the plugs into teh motherboard had come loose. I guess it was just loose enough to cause voltage fluctuations that caused random crashes!!
Thanks for all of your help and sorry for not checking the obvious. Because the machine had been working fine and hadn't even been opened I didn't think that something like that could have happened!!
Excellent detective work on your part! Good job. I am glad to be able to help and you are welcome. Troubleshooting is a process of elimination and, yes, there can easily be more than one thing causing conflicts. It could have been a residual driver causing the BSOD's. Unfortunately, we usually have to troubleshoot to find them as the dumps do not always point to the specific causes. I hope your BSOD's are over.
Rats, it seems that was not my problem
I have been away but yesterday the problem came back and now I can't even boot the computer. It booted once yesterdaay but crashed during trying to run the log file creator.
Today I can't get it to boot at all, it seems to crash either at the point the motherboard says "loading ASUS express gate..." or it just shows nothing at all. I have just tried clearing the CMOS and it gets to the
"qmerican megatrends
CMOS date/time not set
Press F1 to run setup"
And the has crashed... I can't enter the bios or do anything
Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this or what to do?
Should I maybe try to RMA the motherboard?
If you are not even getting through the BIOS, it is a hardware issue. It could be the motherboard, memory, memory controller, etc. If you can RAM the motherboard, I would do so. See if they will check RAM, too.
