Start up failure
I built my PC in April, it was running fine until a few weeks ago.
It began by starting up extremely slowly, it got to desktop and took about 10 minutes before it was functional (ie didn't freeze or lag for a few seconds between each action)
Then it began to hang after displaying the windows logo, just before the logon screen. It either hangs on a black screen with the logo, hangs on the logon screen with a "Starting Windows" message, or sometimes even just resets itself and begins to start up again. It can do this for up to 10 minutes.
Sometimes it gives a random error such as from "logonui.exe" or a random nvidia or windows driver, it seems to be fairly random and without reference to what is actually causing the stalling/crashing.
After it finally boots up, it lags for a bit, whenever you click something it freezes for a few seconds and stops responding, some of the drivers stopped booting up correctly. Whenever I started I had to go to the device manager, disable sound hardware and enable again to get sound working. After removing sound card drivers and letting Windows reinstall them this problem has been solved.
But whenever starting up I have to reconnect my USB microphone, otherwise it isn't detected. I also had to disable my wireless adapter, and then press diagnose for it to fix itself so it detects wireless connections.
After all that, it works fine, just as fast as it always has, games and other software runs fun. It never blue screens or crashes. It's a pure start up problem.
I tried the Windows 7 boot disc, selected boot from disc drive (D:) in bios and used the start up recovery, but it didn't help. The start up recovery asked me to select the Windows installation I wanted to fix, giving me an option of (D:), even though that is a optical media drive, and C: is the hard drive. I am not running any other OSs or partitions of any sort, so I'm not sure why it'd detect D as the windows installation.
It also said I should remove USB cameras and portable music devices and try again, but I don't have any of that connected so I couldn't remove anything.
It also blue screened a few times whilst booting, and then said on rebooting, "start windows recovery." This is without the Win7 disk in, but the same problem occured, asked me to reboot without portable music devices in and detected the Win7 installation on D: drive, despite there being no disc in the optical media (D:) drive.
I have no system restore points for some reason, so I'm all out of ideas.
Can anyone help! Getting really frustrating now.
